GARDEN SANCTUARIES The process of creating a Sanctuary, or "Soul-Full Garden" is very interactive and usually consists of several sessions. Depending on your needs and desires, the process can include the creation of a plan for very small intimate spaces, or large areas for walking paths and seating. A sense of sanctuary is more than a specific place, but all Soul-Full Gardens are designed with the idea of your well-being in mind. |
Session One is typically 2-3 hours and consists of the Identification phase.
Through a series of questions and answers, free-association exercises, dialog, and observing the potential garden site, a written (or with your approval, tape-recorded) record is created and assists in identifying your needs and preferences. This information, along with my creative expertise, are used to formulate a design that is started or completed in Session Two depending on the size of the project. At the end of Session One, you will be asked to collect relevant memorabilia or objects that can be used as powerful symbols of what it is that you want to foster in this garden of the soul.
Between Sessions One and Session Two, are the Synthesis Phase. I work to synthesize the collected information and do research based on Session One, then develop a creative expression of your Soul-Full Garden that can begin to be implemented in Session Two.
Session Two consists of the Project Implementation phase, and may range from 2-4 hours to several weeks depending on the size of the project.
Depending on the scale of the project, I (or we) would then create in Session Two your soul-space using materials that had been previously gathered.
For larger projects, or those involving carpentry, masonry, etc. recommendations will be made as to how to proceed with implementation.
A site sketch, materials list, or formal garden design plan can also be provided if requested.
THE OUTCOME:
The creation of an intimate niche that calls out to you, where spending time there calls forth your creative and reflective self.
Physical representations may include an altar, shrine, indoor or outdoor garden room filled with flowers, art, personal mementos, seating, or water feature.
